Obituary of Jane F. Blanchard

Jane F. Blanchard, 92, longtime resident of Rodman, died Wednesday November 30, 2016 under the care of angels at Hospice of Jefferson County, Watertown. A memorial service will be 11:00 am Saturday at the Rodman Community Church, with Rev. David Swift officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Arrangements are with the Piddock Funeral Home, Adams. Born June 6, 1924 in Watertown, daughter of J. Merrick and Delphine (Wolfe) Fassett, she graduated from Adams Center High School. Following graduation she attended the House of the Good Samaritan Nurse’s Training Program, earning her nursing degree in 1945. She then attended Russell Sage College School of Nursing, earning her degree in Obstetrical Nursing in 1946. Mrs. Blanchard worked for Dr. James Crossley, Watertown and Dr. Carl B. Alden, Adams, for several years before returning to the House of the Good Samaritan Hospital, retiring as a Supervisor in 1987. She married Merrill O. Blanchard August 3, 1947 in the Adams Center Baptist Church with Rev. Ray N. McCann officiating. The couple lived in Rodman most of their married life. She and her husband enjoyed cross country drives and many bus trips. Mr. Blanchard died June 19, 1996. She is survived by one son Michael (Mary) Blanchard, Adams Center; one daughter Susan (Scott) Renshaw, Adams; three grandchildren, one great-grandchild and one nephew. She is predeceased by one brother, James Fassett and one nephew. Mrs. Blanchard was a member of the Rodman Community Church, Alumni Association of the House of the Good Samaritan and a charter member of the Rodman Fire Department Auxilary. She attended the YMCA Healthy Seniors for 24 years.
