Obituary of Maryanne Giangobbe

Maryanne Giangobbe (1925 – 2014) HENDERSON HARBOR, NY – Maryanne Giangobbe, 88, died peacefully at the Halifax Hospice Care Center in Port Orange, Florida, her winter home, on March 5, 2014, surrounded by her family. Born in Syracuse, New York on November 13, 1925, she was the daughter of Joseph and Rosaria DeFranco. She grew up in Syracuse and graduated from Syracuse High School. She married James A. Giangobbe on May 24, 1947, in St. Anthony of Padua Church in Syracuse. She moved with her family to Henderson Harbor in 1958. Maryanne loved life and lived it with gusto. For 35 years, she was a real estate broker and branch office manager for Syracuse-based Conan Real Estate. She was active in civic affairs and was one of the founders and a past president of the Henderson Taxpayers Association. She was also a member of the Henderson Planning Board for five years. A devout Catholic, she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society of Queen of Heaven Church in Henderson, NY, and served on the Queen of Heaven finance council. She was a needlepoint enthusiast, an avid bridge player, and a seasoned traveler who enjoyed cruising around the world with her friend Marlene Wetmore. She was a member and past president of the Northern NY Chapter of the American Needlepoint Guild and an active member and treasurer of Adams, NY-based Etude Club. She was also a volunteer for the Henderson Historical Society. A long-term cancer survivor, Maryanne was a Reach to Recovery volunteer for the American Cancer Society. She volunteered at the Samaritan Hospital Cancer Center in Watertown, NY, and at the Halifax Hospital Cancer Research Library in Daytona Beach, Florida. She is survived by her daughter Jamie Moesel and husband John of Honeyville, NY; her daughter Tina Rapp of Peterborough, NH; her brother Vincent James of Phoenix, Arizona; her granddaughter Allison Moesel of Arlington, Virginia; her granddaughter Adrienne Sliz and husband Josiah of Boston, Massachusetts; her granddaughter Emily Rapp of Washington, D.C.; and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband James, a well-known builder in the Henderson Harbor area, on March 2, 1997, and by her brother Anthony in 1987. A mass and reception celebrating her life will be held in the late spring. Arrangements are being made by Piddock Funeral Home in Adams, NY. Donations in her honor may be made to Queen of Heaven Church or to the Henderson Historical Society.
