My deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of Jennifer Collins. Jennifer was my Writing 100 professor last summer. But to me, she was much more than that. She generally cared about her students. When she taught us, she made sure that we understood what we were learning, and how to apply it to our own lives. She let us express ourselves in our class. My favorite part of her class was the discussions that we would have about our writing. We would move our desks into a circle at the beginning of every class, and read our writings to each other. When talking to us, she was so down to earth. She would constantly make us laugh, and not only that, but made everyone in the class come out of our shells. Jennifer had so many plans and goals in her life that she unfortunately did not get to explore. But it does not matter, because she changed the lives of so many students, family members, and loved ones. She will never be forgotten.

I am eternally grateful that Jenn was a part of my life, and my mentor. I aspire to be the loving, dedicated, smart, sassy, funny, awesome kind of teacher she was. She made me feel empowered and confident that I can be, too! Nobody has ever been as good at that as she was. She always made me feel so smart and good and special. She made me aspire to be the best me possible, to strive to make a positive mark on the world, and to believe I could actually do that. I was rereading emails and blog posts from her over the past week, and was again in awe of how dynamic and inspiring she IS! And I could hear her voice. She will ALWAYS be an inspiration to me.
To Moira, my heart goes out to you. I know there is nothing that can make this right, but know that your wife was so well-loved by so many, including me. To her parents and family, you must have done something right to raise such a beautiful and devoted woman. My deepest condolences are with you at this time.
Love,
Tracy (Tbird) Waring

Dr. Cook will forever be a part of who I am today as a teacher. Even though our lives crossed paths for a brief moment in time, I felt like I knew her. She was transparent and passionate about what she did…who she was. She taught us with her soft, gentle spirit to be strong and passionate educators and movers in our classrooms. She will be greatly missed! My condolences to Moira, Jenn's family, and to the RIC community who will definitely suffer a great loss after losing one of the best.

Dr. Cook was my professor and adviser. She was an inspiration to aspiring teachers, and I don’t think that I ever saw her unhappy. She was always welcoming, and regardless of how a conversation might start, she always made sure that she ended it on a positive note. The influence that she left on those she came in contact with will live on forever.
My deepest condolences to the Moira Collins and the Cook family,
Mary Sue St.George

Dear Family and Moira,
Like Jenn, I am also an Associate Professor at RIC, but in Elementary Education. I got to know Jenn through a project about helping English Language Learners, which we both were part of for two years. Jenn was always so collaborative and friendly. And happy too! We all loved her smile, admired her gifts, and appreciated her humor.
Sincerely,
Anne Goodrow, Elementary Education, Rhode Island College

Dear Collins-Cook Family,
I wanted to verbalize my gratitude and deep admiration for my beloved mentor, friend, and professor. She has shaped me into the person--into the teacher, that I am today.
Despite our brief "run-in" at Dave's Market one day and then another somewhat longer rekindling at a Seminar, I never got to truly thank Dr. Cook and share with her how much she has influenced me and therefore directly impacted my students.
Upon hearing the sad news, I went back to some of the papers I saved in college and upon re-reading her comments I can still hear her voice--ever soft, compassionate, and genuine.
I have posted a picture of Dr. Cook in my classroom with a cherished quote (one I have often referenced to!) "Be the duck..."

Jenn's passing seems so swift, which in one small way feels like the instantaneous manner in which we hear she exuded love, light, and music. We celebrate you Jenn, and we wish for your beloveds the gifts of unexpected moments of love, fractals of light, and bits of musical riffs as you all navigate this path together.

Dearest Cook Family and Moira,
Words cannot adequately express our sorrow for all of you. My memories of Jenny were of a happy little blondie running and hopping and singing - the most beautiful little sprite I have ever seen. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all the teachers she has encouraged to be better - to usher them into their futures to make a difference in this world - just the way she, herself did.
Love,
Billie and Dennis Brady, Oswego, NY
