Obituary of Nancy E. Cean

Nancy E. Cean, 81, formerly of Adams, passed on Tuesday morning September 26 at the Country Manor Nursing Home in Carthage, where she had resided since August 2005.  A graveside service will be at 10:00 am Saturday in Saint Cecilia’s Cemetery, with Rev. Martin Cline officiating.  There are no calling hours.

Arrangements are with the Piddock Funeral Home, Inc., Adams.

Born April 17, 1936 in Minetto, NY, daughter of Franklin and Virginia (Shaner) Dobson, she graduated from Minetto High School, and later from Oswego State where she earned her Master’s Degree in Education.  She taught 5th grade in the Adams Center Wilson Elementary School.  

Nancy married Robert M. Cean of Adams on October 25, 1958 at Saint Mary’s Church in Oswego.  The couple owned and operated the Village Studio in Adams and the Yankee Trader specializing in wedding photography and the restoration of antiques.  

Mr. Cean died September 2, 2004.

Surviving are three sons, John Cean, Rochester, Michael Cean, Mannsville, Robert (Bruce) Cean, Adams; two grand-daughters Heather and Brittany Cean, two grandsons Jarrod and Zachary Cean; and one great grandson Owen Cean.  She is predeceased by a brother F. Mitchell, who died in 2001.

Nancy was an antique enthusiast and especially enjoyed the process of bringing the beauty back into old furniture.
