Obituary of Sylvia M. Dealing

Sylvia M. Dealing, 82, of Rutland, died Thursday morning May 8, 2014 at her home where she was under the care of her family and Hospice of Jefferson County. A memorial service will be 11:00 am Tuesday May 13th at the Piddock Funeral Home, Adams, with Joanne Nugent-Ward, lay speaker at the Emmanuel Congregational Church, UCC, Watertown, officiating. Burial will follow in the Rutland Maple Hill Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Born September 6, 1931 in Watertown, daughter of John A. and Dorothy (McLaughlin) Edmonds, she attended Copenhagen Central School. Following school, she married Carroll ‘Beefy’ H. Dealing on September 19, 1948 at the Rutland Middle Road Church, with the Rev. Howard Boardman officiating. The couple lived in Rutland all their married life. Mr. Dealing died December 20, 2002. Mrs. Dealing is survived by six daughters, Susan and her husband Arthur Baderman, Rodman, Nancy and her husband Larry LaFave, Rutland, Carol and her husband Skip Cunningham, Rutland, Julie and her husband Don Rohr, Champion, Barb and her husband Mike Rennie, Pleasant Lake, Mary and her spouse Colleen Masterson, Rodman; one son William and his wife Amanda Dealing, Champion; eight grandchildren Heather (Jeff) LaRose, Jason Rennie, Shawn Cunningham, Dave DeHoff, Samantha Cunningham, Billy Rohr, Emily Sipher, and Sophie Dealing. Six great-grandchildren Nicholas, Emma and Sarah LaRose; Cannon and Maddie Riggs, and Basil Coleman. Also one brother, Robert Edmonds, Watertown, one sister, Margaret Russell, Lee Center, and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she is also predeceased by two brothers, Neal Edmonds and Keith Edmonds, and one sister, Celeste McDonald. Mrs. Dealing was a Charter Member of the Rutland Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed reading and was a die-hard Larry Bird, of the Boston Celtics, fan.
