Obituary of Laura M. Macklen

Laura M. Macklen, 85, lifelong resident of Lorraine, died Saturday evening November 23, 2019 at Hospice of Jefferson County, Watertown.  Her funeral service will be 2:00 pm Friday November 29th at the Piddock Funeral Home Inc, Adams, with Nancy Russell, pastor, of the Lorraine United Methodist Church officiating.  Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Rodman.  Calling hours will precede the funeral beginning at 11:00 am.

Laura was born October 25, 1934 in Worth, NY, daughter of Grant and Beulah (Guyette) Thompson.  She graduated from Adams High School in 1952.  She worked as a waitress and for a number of years at Moore’s Store in Lorraine and later at LaCelle’s Golf Course, Mannsville.

For the past forty-plus years she was the Tax Collector and Town Clerk of Worth.

She married Baxter M. Macklen of Worth.  The couple lived and farmed in Worth all their married life.  Following the death of her husband on June 28, 1994, their son Mark continued on with the farm.

She is survived by two sons Mark (Karen) Macklen, Worth and Dale (Doreen) Macklen, Boylston; a step daughter Beverly (Kenneth) Kimber, Brockport; seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by a brother James Thompson.

Laura was a member of the Lorraine United Methodist Church and their Wednesday Club, Rodman Lucille Chapter OES, Adams Center Grange and the South Jefferson Historical Association.
