Obituary of Marshall B. Rudd

Marshall B. Rudd, 90, of Watertown and former longtime resident of Rodman, died July 2, 2014 at his home, where he was under the care of his family and Hospice of Jefferson County.There will be a memorial service at 10: 30 am Thursday July 10 at the Rodman Congregational Church, with Rev. Beverly Bibbins officiating. Burial will be private in the Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Piddock Funeral Home, Adams. Born January 22, 1924 in Ellisburg, son of Emery and Jennie (Lennox) Rudd, he graduated from Mannsville High School in 1942. He married Carolyn F. Sutton on April 22, 1945 at the Burrville Congregational Church. The couple owned and operated a dairy farm on the Kenfield Road in Rodman until 1979, when his son Calvin Rudd took over. While most people would retire after 30 years of farming, Marshall started the Rudd Spray Service in Watertown and worked there until he was 85 years old. His son Jeffrey Rudd now owns and operates Rudd Spray Service, as well as Rudd's Town and Country Store. The couple enjoyed spending time during the winter at the home of their daughter Barbara Jean Harris, in El Cajon, CA. Following the death of his wife who passed away on December 30, 2002, Marshall continued traveling to his daughter’s home where he stayed during the winter. A devoted father and grandfather, he is survived by two sons and daughters in law, Calvin B. and Sharon Rudd, Henderson, Jeffrey M. and Karen Rudd, Rodman; one daughter, Barbara Jean Harris, El Cajon, CA; six grandchildren, Lisa, Michael, Greg, Jason, Matthew, and Rachel; five great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law Marjorie Rudd (wife of Carroll Rudd), Elbridge; and Evelyn Sutton, NJ, wife of Kenneth Sutton (Carolyn's brother); and many nieces and nephews.   He is predeceased by four brothers, William, Calvin, Manfred and Carroll Rudd. Marshall was the Rodman Town Highway Superintendent and drove snowplow for the town for many years. He also taught Bible Study Classes at the Rodman Congregational Church, was an active member of the Grange and various agricultural organizations. Marshall and Carolyn were active in square dancing and various card clubs, and especially enjoyed traveling the United States.
