As a friend of her daughter - Robin, I met Sandy in the Spring of 2010. Sandy stayed with Robin just prior to the Licata Family move to Germany. During that short time, it became obvious where Robin got her spunk and drive. I found Sandy to be a warm, caring Mom. Yet Sandy had her own funny - sometimes zany way about her. She was quite special.
I enjoyed Sandy's wit and wisdom as I shared stories with her. I learned about life in Northern New York, which was certainly different from the NY City streets where I grew up.
While Robin's family was overseas, I stayed in periodic touch with Sandy, and her mom - Grandma Kate. I sadly recall that it was May 2011 when I last saw Sandy. I had traveled to Piddock in Adams, NY to attend the services of her mom - Kate. In those few days, I tried to provide comfort and friendship to Sandy and Robin.
Surely, nine years seems like a long while back in time. But I've learned that time lurches forward in leaps and bounds - especially as one grows older. As it does, people are left to reminisce the warm memories of people who were wonderful to know. Certainly Sandy was one of those people I think of from time to time. Over the last few years - I learned of Sandy's health issues. So with her passing, I trust that Sandy's soul has once again found peace and companionship with Kate and her late husband, Ted.
I'm sorry that I can't be in Adams, NY on this sad occasion. My thoughts and prayers go out to Robin and the rest of Sandy's family. [Warm regards and condolences ... Bill Bornemann]
