Obituary of Nellie A. Brownell

Nellie A. Brownell, 90, a longtime resident of East Rodman, died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2020, at the Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown. There are no public services at this time. A family graveside service will be held at a later time. It was her wish to have her body used for anatomical donation to the SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, NY. Arrangements are with the Piddock Funeral Home, Inc., Adams. Nellie was born March 12, 1930 in the Town of Pinckney, daughter of Tabor and Anna Mead, and attended school in the East Rodman school house. She married Harrison H. Brownell on March 19, 1946. The couple lived all their married life in East Rodman. Mr. Brownell died May 8, 1986. Nellie continued to live in East Rodman until her death. She was a housewife and worked at Carl Bakers Store in East Rodman occasionally. Nellie would babysit all the kids in the neighborhood, as well as her own grandchildren. Her house was always full of kids. She loved gardening and cats and dogs. Nellie is survived by her four children, Alma (David) Woodworth, IN, Danford Brownell, East Rodman, Robin Brownell, Adams, Shawnee (James) Daniels, South Rutland; ten grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren, and twenty seven great great grandchildren. She is predeceased by a brother Tabor Mead Jr, and a sister Essie Mead. Donations in her memory may be made to the Jefferson County SPCA, 25056 Water St, Watertown, NY 13601, the Rodman First Responders, 21495 County Route 69, Rodman, NY 13682, or a favorite charily of one's choice.
