Obituary of George T. Russell

George T. Russell, 82, of Adams, NY, passed away on May 28, 2024, at the Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown, NY. Born on November 26, 1941, George was the son of Allan and Hazel (Nemier) Russell. He attended school in Florence, NY and Adams, NY, and later served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1964 to 1966, earning an honorable discharge. On November 12, 1966, George married Ramona G. Barrett at the Adams Episcopal Church, and they spent 57 years together in Adams. George dedicated 41 years of his life to New York Airbrake as a machinist before retiring in 2007. Meanwhile, Ramona served as a health care provider at Gables Adult Home in Adams. He was a lifetime member of the Adams American Legion and member of the District Lodge Sixty`Five International Association of Machinist and Aerospace Workers ~A.F.L.-C.I.O. George also enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, especially spending time outdoors and caring for his lawn. His faithful companion, his dog Sophie, held a special place in his heart. George is survived by his beloved wife, Ramona G. Russell, and their three children, Franki (Steven) Melchor of Virginia, Jody LaVancha of Adams, NY, and Christopher Russell of Amherst, NY. He was a loving grandfather to six grandchildren: Michael Churchhill, Jamie Churchhill, Amy LaVancha, Alexis LaVancha, Jack LaVancha, and Alex Russell, and four great-grandchildren: Emery, Hailey, Thomas, and Eric, Jr. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Leo and Louise Russell of Florida, William and Clara Russell, and Randy and Julie Russell, all of Adams, NY, along with two sisters and their husbands, Mary and Larry Clemons of Adams Center, NY, and Rosemary and Louis Filippi of Adams, NY; a sister-in-law, Amelia Russell of Syracuse, NY, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. George was pre-deceased by his parents, a grandson, Nicholas LaVancha, and a brother, Fredrick Russell. It was his wish to be cremated, and there will be no services.
