Obituary of Matthew James Waite

Matthew James Waite, 38, of Adams, NY, passed peacefully into God’s embrace on Friday, August 30, 2024, surrounded by his loving family and close friends. Matt was born on January 17th, 1986 to Barry and Ellen Waite in Watertown, NY. He grew up with his two brothers in Adams Center, NY, and graduated from South Jefferson Central School in 2004. Matt is survived by his wife, Rebecca (“Becca”), son Hunter, daughter Emery, his parents, Barry and Ellen Waite; brother Darrick (Shaun) Pleskach, brother Justin (Alissa) Waite; nieces, Devyn, Raegan, Jaelyn, Lily, and Madison; nephew, Jude; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Matt was welcomed into heaven by his maternal and paternal grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, brother-in-law and friends. Matt married his soulmate, Becca Laisdell, in 2009. This dynamic duo brought forth into this world two amazing children; Hunter, referred to as “Jonsey” by his father, and Emery, who he referenced in his contacts as “My sweet little angel.” With this union, he also gained a father and mother-in-law, Jim and Melanie Laisdell, who he referred to as “Meme” and “Papa”. His passion for outdoor sport machines, namely Polaris, was the greatest source of his education. Matt began his work career at the young age of 14 when his family’s business, Waite Motorsports, opened its doors. Matt loved working in the family business; he took great pride in serving his customers, was an active member of the community and could be counted on as a sponsor or donor for various local events. Matt enjoyed deer hunting with his father and brothers. He eventually learned to love all the preparation that went along with it because as his father would always say, “you know, I won’t be around to do this for you forever.” Being the youngest of three boys, he also managed to maintain his status as Momma’s boy, even when stretching his mother’s nerves to the limit with his constant shenanigans. He was an active parent who you could see and hear in the stands at any one of Hunter’s football games or Emery’s horse shows. He and Becca were a formidable team who lived life to the fullest. Whether it was playing in the Harbor Hackers golf league, cheering on the Philadelphia Eagles, or turning a small get-together into a full-blown party, Matt would always respond with, “Why not?”. While he was often the initiator of countless adventures and memory-making escapades, he knew to always answer to Becca’s spontaneous plans with, “Yes, dear.” One of Matt’s many talents was his ability to sing. He began with singing in the church choir as a young boy and then progressed into becoming a local karaoke star, serenading us all with his favorite country and classic rock hits. The longer the song, the better (for him). Matt never lived in half measure which was apparent in his competitive nature. Whether fishing with his father and brothers, playing pitch, riding ATVs, camping, or guaranteeing that 17 would always hit on the roulette table, Matt’s mantra was: Live every day to the fullest, like it’s your last! Matt was taken from us entirely too soon. He was one of the very best – the best husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend. May he rest in eternal peace, and may his memory continue to bring laughter and warmth to the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have known him. Memorial services will be held at New Life Christian Church on September 14, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. A celebration of Matt’s life will be held at the Adams Country Club following the service, at approximately 1:00 pm . In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the South Jefferson Rescue Squad, PO Box 126, Adams, NY 13605.
