Obituary of Carlton M. Castor

Carlton M. Castor, 80, formerly of Adams, NY, passed away at his home in Lacona, NY, on Wednesday, September 25, 2024. Born February 11, 1944, in Rodman, NY, he was the son of the late Merl and Icaleen (Sawyer) Castor. He attended school in Adams Center, NY. He married Elaine C. Jones on October 4, 1975. Following their marriage the couple lived in Adams, NY and most recently in Lacona, NY. Carl served in the United States Air Force from 1961-1965. He was a lifetime member of the Adams American Legion Post 586. Carl worked as a machinist at New York Air Brake in Watertown, NY, retiring in 2010. He is survived by two sons, Steven (Reata) Castor and Scott Castor, (from a previous marriage to Colleen that ended in divorce); four stepchildren, Susan (Robert) Coffin, Steven (Sandi) Jones, Alvin (Machell) Jones and Carmen (Eric) Wilber. He is also survived by two brothers, Wayne Castor and Walter Castor; two sisters, Corky (Steve) Gaworecki and Carla Russell; two brothers-in-law, William (Carol) Garvin and Roger Garvin and a sister-in-law, Delores (Robert) Reese. He has ten grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Carl is predeceased by his wife, Elaine C. Castor who died July 3, 2024; a sister, Joanne; a daughter, Lori Ann; sisters-in-law, Sheila Castor, Eldora Reynolds, Bernetta Williams, and Kathryn Potter; two brothers-in-laws, Edson and Willis Thomas; and a great granddaughter, Nova Elaine Stuckey. Carl was an avid deer hunter. He took great pride in teaching all his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren the art of hunting. He also had a great love for brook trout fishing. Many memories were made throughout the North Country on both hunting and fishing trips. Carl referred to his wife of nearly 50 years as his “Woman” and Elaine in turn called him her “Country Bumpkin”. They loved to dance and were a vision to watch on the dance floor. They are certainly dancing across the galaxies now. As per his wishes, there will be no services. Internment will be at the convenience of the family.
