Obituary of Genevieve M. Fisher

Adams - Genevieve M. Fisher, 96, formerly of Bond Street, passed away on Saturday May 2nd, at Samaritan Keep Home in Watertown, where she had resided since February 2010. There are no calling hours or funeral services. A private family burial will be held in the Oakwood Cemetery, Theresa. Arrangements are with the Piddock Funeral Home, Adams. Born March 18, 1919 in the Town of Philadelphia, NY, daughter of Louis and Maude Kavanaugh, she graduated from Philadelphia High School and in 1927 from the Canton School of Technical Institute dietetics program. After affiliating for a year’s training at the Hahnemann Hospital in Philadelphia, PA, she became a dietician at the Physicians Hospital in Plattsburg, NY for three years. In 1941 she started marking a career with the F.W. Woolworth Co. where executive and administrative positions were held. A period of twenty years was spent in traveling as Personnel Supervisor working in stores located in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont and New York. The last eleven years she worked at the new Woolworth store that opened in 1971 in Watertown, NY as a Merchandise Coordinator, retiring in 1981. Genevieve was married to Donald Fisher of Plattsburg, NY on November 5, 1941. Mr. Fisher served in the United States Army during World War II, participating in many major battles while serving in the European and African theatres of operation. It was during the invasion into Germany at the crossing of the Rheins River in March 1945, six weeks before the war ended, that he was killed. She was a member of the Adams United Methodist Church, past president of Etude Study Club, former Republican committee man, life member if the Adams Cecilia Chapter No. 156 of Eastern Stars and a former director on the Blind & Visually Impaired Commission in Watertown. Surviving are five nieces and their husbands, several great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. A brother, Gerald Kavanaugh passed away in 1996.
