Obituary of Bruce M. Goewey

Bruce M. Goewey, 69, of Adams, passed on March 7, 2016 at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Buffalo, NY. He had a year and a half long battle with Leukemia, and had a successful stem cell transplant, but died of complications during his recovery. Funeral service will be 1:00 pm Saturday, March 12 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 20020 County Rt 65, Ives Street Road, Watertown. Burial will be in the spring in the Rural Cemetery in Adams. Calling hours precede the funeral at the church beginning at 11:00 am. Arrangements are with the Piddock Funeral Home, Adams. Born June 13, 1946 in Fulton, NY, son of Robert R. and Virginia (Keyes) Goewey, he graduated from Westhill High School, Syracuse, NY and then Brigham Young University, Provo Utah, earning his Bachelors of Arts and Political Science degree in 1974. From 1971-1973, Bruce went on a LDS Spanish Speaking Mission in Los Angeles, CA. He married Lynne Robinson of Philadelphia, PA on March 31, 1978 in Provo Utah. The couple lived in Utah for 10 years before moving to East Syracuse, then to Watertown where he became Executive Director of the Watertown Housing Authority. They moved to Adams in 2006 where he lived the rest of his married life. Bruce is survived by his wife Lynne; two sons Benjamin B. Goewey, Raleigh, NC, Gerrit M. (Cheryl) Goewey, Oswego, NY; two brothers, Scott (Susan) Goewey, New Mexico, Brian (Anne) Goewey, Rochester, NY; one sister Rebecca Dustin, Latham, NY; two nieces Katherine Goewey, Lauren Goewey; four nephews, Christopher Goewey, Stephen Goewey, Michael Dustin and Matthew Dustin. He is predeceased by one brother, Michael Goewey. Bruce was a former member of the Watertown Rotary. He enjoyed cycling, wrote poetry, blogging and the social media.
