Paul was my favorite teacher in junior high school - no doubt because he never got mad when I didn't do my homework and because he had a great sense of humor. To this day, I can recite the Preamble to the Constitution (an extra credit assignment) and I remember that the Magna Carta was signed in 1215. (He reminded us that that was the time we were excused for lunch) :-)
He was blessed that Bill and Lisa offered him a loving place to live in his final year. He will be missed by so many. Rest in peace, Paul.

Paul was one of those people who would light up any room. I never had the chance to have him as a student, but I did have the distinct pleasure of working with him at South Jefferson when I taught social studies there. It was during that time that Paul encouraged me to become more involved in politics, and I ended up on the Jefferson County Democratic Committee because of him. I eventually moved to the New York City area, but on a visit home to see my mother, I had a wonderful conversation with him. He was so interested in what I was doing, and how my life was going. He will truly be missed.

Bill and Lisa,
We say goodbye to the last of our parents, safe in our knowledge that we will see them all again someday. These losses hurt so much, but you can be comforted by the love that you showed him through your compassionate care. He knew you loved him. You know he loved you. Those assurances will sustain you.
Still, the thoughts and prayers of the Grieco girls are with you. A great guy, and the reason we all know SOME history, even after all these years.
Love, MJ, Linda, Toni, and Cathy

RIP Mr. Smith. You were one of my favorite teachers at SJCS. You made learning history fun ---think-- class --- when you start to get hungry at 1215, remember the signing of the Magna Carta!
